Hi, can anyone explain what the negative calories from achieving your steps goal is about? When I was on 9k steps
I had -3 calories, now I've done 20k and it's -30. I thought this would be a good thing, not a bad thing!!!

It's based on time left in the day vs. how much you've done. If you got in all of your 9k pretty early, then the rest were spread throughout the day, it can throw things out of whack.

For example, if I wake up at 2 am, and put in 10k by 4, I'll see something like +250. If I then sit on my butt until noon, it will go way down the next time I sync. I've had days where I went to bed at 7 pm with like 500 left for the day. Wake up and sync the next morning, and it drops to the 200 range.

You either have synced too early in the day ...or you have MFP set to active/very active.

Are your net Calories coming in at the -30? If so once you eat some more food and add it to your diary your net Calories should go in to the positive.
I'll often be netting negative Calories before lunch because I've only ate breakfast but been to the gym and burnt 500+ Calories, but by the end of the day I've ate enough to get close to netting my goal.

Mine always seems to start my morning out by taking away allowed calories rather than adding to it. I just leave it alone and it rights itself later in the day. Not sure why it does that.

Did you also log separate workouts?
