Searching Exercises

I've tried searching "treadmill" to add for my daily exercise and all that comes up is "Step Treadmill Ergometer". This also happens when I search some other exercises. I just recently started using My Fitness Pal to sync with my Garmin Tracker and find it disappointing when I can't find the proper exercises to add to my daily exercise diary.

Also, why does the exercise diary ask for the time of the exercise. This is a hassle to try and remember the time I did an exercise when I'm busy working out.

I have disconnected my Garmin from fitness pal because I didn't like the incorrect entries either. I just manually add the exercises and use the calorie count from my Garmin.
As for the exercises, instead of treadmill, try walking or running as the exercise.

The time is mostly usefully for those people who have a fitbit or similar device connected to MFP - it keeps their exercise from being double counted. If you don't have anything connected then you really don't need to worry about accuracy of the start time.

For the treadmill I just use one of the walking entries (or running).

If you're using something to track your calories you can also create your own exercises and use the info from your device to add the calories.

Weird. I just tell my Garmin I'm going for a bike ride or a ski or whatever, and everything winds up on MFP as soon as I finish.

If you are using a treadmill, you are either walking or running. Search for walk or run and choose the closest pace (speed) that you were going.

Tips on How To Search MFP to Add Exercises

Search for only the first three or four letters of a key word to get a list of potential matches. If there are too many letters in your search, the search algorithm will not return any matches. I have found searching for exercises that I have not yet added to my list sometimes performs better on the web/desktop version than it does on the mobile apps. You can use the browser on your mobile device to open the web/desktop version.

For Cardiovascular activities, in general search for the action verbs, such as walk, run, climb, step, train, row, lift, mow, shovel, garden, clean. A few exceptions are the generic activity for body weight training, which is calisthenics, search for "cal", and the list of aerobic activities, search for "aerobic." The Cardiovascular activities will give you an estimate of Calories burned per minute of activity.

For Strength Training activities, in general search for action verbs such as dip, lift, curl, raise, seated, standing; or the body part, such as abdominal, chest, back, leg, arm, bicep. The Strength Training database will not provide an estimate for Calories, it is only a basic log of sets/reps/weights. Note: you must start a new search for Strength Training activities each time, because for some strange reason any following search will try to search the Cardiovascular activities and not find any matching Strength Training activities.
