Waistline

Ok. I have been doing mfp for a while now and have been losing slowly. Plateauing at the moment around 100kg but losing inches due to weight training 3x a week. Lost 6 inches from chest and quite a bit off thighs and arms. However my waist is huge and looks big in proportion to everything else. The skin feels wobbly rather than tight there whilst I have noticeable definition in legs and arms. My question is will the waist eventually get into proportion as I continue? Should I work more on core exercises oris this just nature? I am 53.

Any advice welcome....thanks!

Loss of fat is directly related to genetics. Core excercises will not change the amount of fat over any particuler muscle group. (You should still do them though) Just keep working out and eating well.

I agree with jdad, that you cannot spot reduce and it will come off in time. However, I did find that doing side bends with a dumbbell and ab crunches 'seemed' to help me.

Funny, I was just moaning about that situation today. I am an "apple" body type apparently. When I was at my largest my waist was the same size as my bust and an inch LARGER than my hips, while my butt and thighs remained pretty moderately sized. Now that I have lost 28 lbs. I now have a bust larger than my waist but my hips are still the same size as my waist..

When I was at my heaviest (about 183 pounds) my father described my figure as "like a nail keg". I guess now (at 141) I just look like a large sausage.... It's certainly hard to look and feel feminine built like this and trying to find pants that fit and do not and just slide off with gravity is a real challenge!!

I am still losing and hope that my waist will eventually shrink to smaller than my hips but I can certainly empathize with your frustration. If anyone out there has the same issues, you are not alone. If anyone out there has some suggestions, I'd love to hear them too.

The first area to gain is genereally the last area to go away. sucks but that is just the way it be.

Determined butt you look incredible. Thanks for the empathy everyone! Maybe I need to cut the fat down in my diet a bit more. On the other hand, when I did Atkins many years sgo my stomach really improved but I felt awful. Despite peri menopause I am feeling pretty good right now so will stick with what I am doing. That profile pic of mine was taken a month ago on holiday and reflects my mood. The weight training has made a big difference for me. Good luck everyone!

It's the second law of weight loss - you lose the fat last from the place you want to lose it from the most!!!

My loss became noticeable in different areas at different stages, nothing you can do about it apart from carrying on.

I do loads of abs and core work to support my injured back but it certainly didn't burn fat off my stomach. Helped my posture and gives me a little definition though.

Unfortunately at 53 (I'm the same age as you) your skin isn't as elastic and takes longer to catch up with your weight loss. Be patient and carry on doing the right things with your diet and exercise and you will get there.

Don't cut fat down in your diet, unless you are way over in fat in your macros. Eating fat will not make you store fat. Eating too many calories is what will make you store excess energy as fat, but it does not matter if those calories were mostly from protein, carbs, or fat. Everybody needs plenty of fats in their diet, set the appropriate macros for you and stick to those.

    Hey there :)

I see you give the difference in measurements for your other areas, but not your waist, you just say it's 'huge'. Is there any movement in your measurements there?

I'm just asking because I have been experiencing something very similar in my hip to thigh area *shudder*. I can't see any difference when I look in the mirror, yet going by my measurements, I've lost more centimeters in that area than anywhere else on my body! I think it's because I hate that area so much (I'm a pear - could you guess??) and when I look in the mirror that's all I look at - I totally obsess over it.

I think what others are saying is true, we do lose weight 'weirdly' and eventually it will all catch up - but we tend to only focus on the areas that we dislike, and we are extra critical of those areas so don't always notice the changes. Eg. I've lost 48cms (almost half a metre!!) from my hips, butt and thighs, but I can't see it... Weirdness

Congrats on your progress so far - I hope you really 'see' the results of your efforts soon!

Thanks everyone! Yes I have lost inches off my waist. About 3 I think but am still a gross 44 inches which I hate. I do have too much fat in my macros I think so will look at this again. I will carry on as I feel so much better and fitter than lady year and about 10 years younger!

My macros are 40% fat and 30/30 so need to up protein and cut fat? Most fat comes from butter. I do eat a lot of vegetables but curry too!
