Cardio. Generally elliptical while watching TV or reading to make the time go by faster.

It really comes down to anything you will do though.

Actually my weight loss improves when I focus on exercise for fitness. When I was exercising to burn calories it seemed as if all I was doing was thinking about food. Now that I don't associate the two...both weight loss and fitness are improving.

I couldn't agree with this more. I had a mind-shift this year and it's making a big difference.

Whatever you enjoy and will do on a consistent basis. But weight loss still depends on controlling food intake.

I like food more than I don't like doing cardio. So doing it means I get to eat more food while losing weight.

I manage my calories for weight loss and I exercise for fitness/well being.

Whatever gets my happy hormones flowing so that I don't seek stress release from food.

    Walking and strength training.

    Walking for piece of mind.
Strength training because I want to crush men with my thighs. I kid, I kid!!!! I saw that funny on Pinterest.

I want to be fit and stronger in my older years, because I piddled my youth away on chips.

Love to hit up the rink as often as I can - but I do that for my own progress within skating, not for weight loss (though I'd love to wear a heart-rate monitor one day and see how I go doing double run-throughs).

I always had a hard time working out and hated it. So what I did was I found a hiking trail and got out into the sunshine and walked a trail everyday for an hour . Lost 25 pounds with that and eating lots of veggies with protein

Dancing is also a good way to lose weight because it doesn't even feel like you're working out.

Once upon a time ago, I tried the Exercise for Weight Loss approach...and I hated it. Treadmills, ellipticals, torturous stuff..no no no. Never again. I don't care how "healthy" it is - if I don't love it, I don't do it. Period.
Most people here do it for fitness. That's a good goal.

To be honest, I can't even really claim that. My exercises are purely for enjoyment and stress relief. I walk, dance, and cycle, and it makes me feel alive and invincible. I don't have to think about anything else except what I'm doing at that present moment.
The extra calories are a nice bonus.

Fork put downs and table push aways...

This is the correct answer. I highly recommend exercise but exercise is for fitness. Calorie deficits are for weight loss.

Strength training with some cardio mixed in. I like data so seeing numbers go up, whether it is weights, reps, miles, or times (well those go down) satisfy me. Anything that makes you move will help. Find what makes you happy. For me that is running, any back exercise, and the stairmaster!

In my world, so-called workouts are mainly for fun, but they have a beneficial side effect of fitness. I row (mostly - both on water & occasionally machine), spin (couple times a week), ride my bike in nice weather, walk sometimes, lift weights sometimes, do a li'l yoga/stretching . . . . y'know, have fun.

Weight loss is mainly about eating sensibly.

I was very active for a dozen years (doing pretty much the same stuff I do now, like 45 minutes to an hour, usually 6 days a week), but still stayed obese (though I did get reasonably fit). Only when I got my eating where it needed to be did I lose 1/3 of my bodyweight. It's super easy to out-eat most reasonable amounts of exercise.

If you're looking to burn a lot of calories I would go with cycling. While most people won't burn calories as quickly with cycling as they would with running, it is less damaging to the body than most exercises so you can keep riding until you burn the number of calories you want to burn. But that being said, there are a lot of fat cyclists. Even if you go out and burn a couple thousand calories, you won't lose weight if you eat too much.

Well I am glad many of you are much more motivated than me and only working out for fitness. Unfortunately I am not there yet. I am working out to lose weight and ultimately get healthier hoping as some point it will only be for fitness. But that's not the case right now. I actually enjoying exercising it isn't an issue for me. It's just making the time to do it.

And my food intake is actually really good. I eat lots of lean meats, veggies, fruits. Havent really had an issue there.

Thank you to all who gave wonderful suggestions.
