To gym or not to gym

I'm asking this here because I've been turning it over in my own head and unable to come to a conclusion.
I'm considering cancelling my gym membership but am a bit reluctant to because it is a bit of a safety blanket. As long as I have the membership, I can go, do my exercise and tick it off the list. It is a necessary evil. Once I've been I enjoy it and am glad I've been.
I was made redundant and was fortunate enough to be able to go regularly during my time off. Now I'm back in work, have a hectic schedule and am going once a week on a Tuesday. I'm just about to start Kendo on a Tuesday night (not at the gym).
I do archery or shoot on a Thursday and I've recently joined a reenactment group and do Viking training(!) on a Sunday. It can be quite active because you are swinging a sword and/or an axe about.
Hubby and I also do hiking when we are able but this isn't really consistent and I'm worried that if I give up the gym I won't consistently get the exercise I need. I'm diabetic so regular exercise is a must. It also helps with my mood, I can get a bit grumpy if I'm not active enough.
I have to be at work reasonably early so I'm not going to drag my *kitten* out of bed earlier to go to the gym. That's simply not going to happen..also, the gym is 30 mins each way from home so I need to allow for that in gym sessions.
So, long rambling post but the crux of it is, to gym or not to gym??
Welcome any opinions..

Is it feasible for you to rebudget so that the money spent on gym fees can go toward getting equipment to use at home? If so, I would suggest considering that option. It removes the 30 minute commute problem entirely.1

Are you happy with your fitness level while not going to the gym?
Can you afford, both monetary and space, gym equipment at home?
Have you tried body weight exercises? Do they work for you?
Nobody can make up your mind but you. If you feel you need to go to the gym, go to the gym. If you are satisfied/happy with your level of fitness without going, there is no need to go.0
