Gain Weight Fast! Lose Weight So Slow!

Frustrated and looking to try and take a scientific approach at get back on track. I was a competitive power lifter about a decade ago and gained a good bit of mass (more muscle than fat I believe). Anyhow, after some injuries I transitioned to a triathlete. This was a slow transition but in 2016 I completed an Olympic, Half Ironman and Full Ironman distance triathlons. All in the 2nd half of the year. My weight just prior to the full Ironman was 191 lbs. The weekend following the Ironman (late Oct) I went out on the bike for a casual workout and ended up wrecking and separating my shoulder and bruising a lung. Long story short, I have been easing my way back into action. Here's the bad news.....I am now 213 pounds!!!! I was careful about my diet and just don't understand how I gained weight so fast!! In the past 3 weeks I have ramped up my training and have lost only a pound or two at best! Hopefully get some advice and help from others who have experience a similar scenario.

    I"m glad you are feeling better. Yes! I have had a few bike crashes myself, no fun.

    Good news, some of your weight gain is probably due to water weight. How spot on is your calories counting?

    I second the question about your calorie intake. That is important to get in check. Much of the weight gain was likely water weight, but water weight can take a long time to get off as well.

    Tiny_Dancer_In_Pink & rileysowner - Thanks! Just started actual counting, but I am a data nerd...so trying to be as accurate as possible. I'm logging as much detail as possible. With the holidays I was likely taking in more calories than I thought, but was always mindful of the types of calories I was taking in. Hopefully a majority of my gain was water and it starts to drop soon!

    deannalfisher - That's awesome! I had a good friend do IMLOU! I did IMNC in October and Whitelake Half in August. Yes, the main reason for getting on MFP is to try and get a fix on my intake. Any plans for tri's this year?
