Core

All my workouts leave me sore the next day, except for core. No matter what I try, I just can't seem to work them well enough (granted I'm fairly new at working out on my own). Anyone have any core workouts they love that they're willing to share?

being sore is not an indication of being worked out.

The best core exercises are ones that require long-sustained stabilization as the core musculature is made up of mostly slow twitch muscle fibers. So things like planks, hollow body holds, etc.

When I want to go down hard on it I do Toes-to-bar with a few secs L-hold, or even Knees-to-bar. They're a killer.

Currently I am bound to do bodyweight work and not go down too hard on it. This was the core part of my workout of last night (ball is a soccer ball, not the big pilates ball). I had plenty of fun, admittedly.

Ball plank on 1 leg (balance)
    Ball plank (ball under feet)
    Elastic band side bend
    ISO crunch hold, raised feet

I don't have the video anymore, but I always got that great sore abs feeling from doing any of Tony Horton's ab ripper workouts. I really liked the one that was in the P90 program. (not P90x, P90x3, etc)

I also really liked the Tarheel Medicine Ball Workout. It's a full body workout, but works those abs.

What she said. DOMS usually stops happening after a couple bouts (See: repeated bout effect).

This is a killer. I'm on the third exercise and it is so hard. I also do planks, side planks, plank drags, hanging knee raises, and ab wheel roll-outs.

I do a 10 minute Tiffany Roth video on You Tube. It doesn't seem like much but I really feel it the next day. Jillian Michaels also has 6 week 6 pack on You Tube. She does cardio intervals with it as well. I can't do the whole thing but I am working up to it.

You might need to back off and pace yourself a bit if you're too sore.
