    "consuming too much vegetable oil..."
"most of her specific ideas have not been scientifically tested themselves..."
"can lead to lethargy and trouble concentrating in the short term, she believes,..."
"in her view, might trigger brain conditions, such ..."

    Seems legit.

Look, I'm not one to fall into diet fads or studies, and in this case I truly think Molly Shea of the NY Post is more to blame than Dr. Cate. This is a legitimate doctor who has a great understanding of human metabolism, especially in the field of lipid and protein biochemistry. In my view, she is one of the people that dares to challenge the "war" on dietary cholesterol and has contributed to some groundbreaking work on the study of fats (both natural and hydro-fats). Her work on LDL, HDL and lipid oxidation factors is extremely interesting and enlightening.

To be fair, I disagree with her on almost all her contentions on exercise performance. It's a relatively new field for her, and I think she stumbles to try to validate her claims about fats when dealing with healthy active individuals but it's no reason to scoff at a body of work that would put most of us to shame. I'm also not sure why she would venture into exercise performance...maybe for the money? Or to follow in the footsteps of other doctors such as Atkins et,al? Either way, the article is garbage, I agree. Dr. Shanahan, however, is no joke.

She encourages consumption of "olive, coconut, avocado or peanut oils", and butter. Matches our consumption well, although we use coconut oil, peanut oil and butter less frequently, gotta love the flavour though. She's hardly alone in this view.

Sooooo....idk, bottom line should I drink veg oil, eat avocados a lot, peanuts, what? Basically how many grams of fat a day is healthy and what form should that be in to avoid some kind of bad health from it? Could someone who knows just put it in an easy form for me? Whats the best healthy way to eat?

While Shanahan claims that vegetable oils can wreak havoc on all areas of the body, she’s particularly concerned about the brain. Regularly consuming vegetable oils can lead to lethargy and trouble concentrating in the short term, she believes, and, in her view, might trigger brain conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, down the line. “Oxidative stress disrupts the function of the brain, so the cells cannot do their normal housekeeping,” in her opinion, which allows plaque to build up in the brain.

Nothing scientific here. Opinions, claims, beliefs, personal assumptions...

The article says there is no research on her specific claims so I'm curious what groundbreaking work you're referring to. Is it clinical research on other topics and she has decided to sell her alleged expertise on the topics on which she hasn't done research?

Once again, the article is nonsense, I agree. The person used to substantiate the article, however is not. I'm just as confused as you why she'd participate in such a weird article. Maybe the NY Post is a good publicity outlet? the topic in question has not been researched and is quite frankly BS, but I've come across lectures by Dr. Shanahan and they're frankly pretty rational/reasonable from a biology perspective. That's not to say she won't shamelessly sell out for a buck. I'm just surprised it was her.

It does sound like this power couple is into selected fats and carbs. Their professional success is hard to knock but may or may not be diet related.

I feel like Brady would still be a fairly impressive QB if he were to eat some iodized salt.

But was it the coconut oil that made him a cheater?

It is pretty slick stuff but I do not think it should lead to cheating. Typically where to cheat or not to cheat is just a decision and not food related I expect.

I just didn't know how far we were taking these correlative effects of a person's diet - since your statement seemed to suggest that Tom Brady's professional talents are related to his diet. If that's the case, then maybe some of his choices to cheat on the football field are also related to the diet.

My husband and I briefly discussed the Brady-Buncheon diet one day. Y'all know he is NOT sticking to that diet. Pretty sure he would keel over on the field from lack of energy...big man like that needs real food. Gisele can eat like that since she's a model and doesn't use nearly as many calories, but science says no for a QB to eat the same and still be able to function at the level that he does. Dude would be starving all the time, lol.
Brady picking up phone: Hey hon!
Gisele: Just checking to see if you liked that lunch I packed you!
Brady: *Shushing the guys laughing in the background* Oh yeah, it was delicious, and so filling!
Gisele: Ok, have a great rest of your training today!
Brady: *Hangs up phone and continues munching his cheeseburger and fries*

While I think this eating plan is wootastic, I think a diet of vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and fats like olive oil and coconut oil would provide plenty of energy. Presumably Brady's portion sizes are designed for his activity level while Bundchen's are designed for hers.

@nightengale7 My girlfriend gives the dog she walks meat because his "mom & dad" are vegetarians , so perhaps TB does tweak his food choices a little when away from home. This friend believes people can elect to eat special diets but that it's cruel to do that to a dog.

    @GaleHawkins interesting thread!

I wonder how he became good enough at football to be drafted into the NFL. I'm betting he didn't grow up on this diet.

Right? Growing boy needs sustaining food. I really do think it's awesome for Gisele that she found a diet that works so well for her, I can't even imagine the pressure she must feel to stay looking the way that she does. I just think it's silly of her to make Tom eat the same with slightly larger portions. Dude must burn about 6x more calories than her in a day...

Some people are able to succeed in spite of what they do, not because of what they do. Talent, a lot of hard work and genetics have a lot more to do with Brady's success than his woo-filled diet.

Isn't Brady a pretty loud and vocal proponent of his way of eating? I might have that wrong, being in the UK we don't hear much about him and I don't read the gossip magazines that would talk about him in relation to Gisele.

I looked it up. They 80/20. So 20% of their diet is whatever they fancy.

It's a huge "food order" business, around $80 per week I think, food orders mailed to you door.
For me this wouldn't work, 20% of calories from my "own choices" is a recipe for creating cravings.
Good Luck to the Brady's though in this endeavor.
