A drink - or two or three

This is a sincere post. Please, do not read any further if you have a troubled relationship with alcohol. I don't mean to tempt anybody.

Yesterday I made room in my food diary for champagne and a cake. We celebrated a colleague of mine and you just can't do that with carrot sticks and water (that's at least my humble opinion). Today I saved calories for a nice glass of wine. It's Friday; I survived another week - I deserve it.

I love to have a drink or two when we have company or after a long day at work. I am almost certain that I am not the only one "wasting" calories on alcohol but it does make me feel "weird" when I log a dirty Martini or a glass of wine.

I look at my daily calories the same way I look at "play money" when I go to a casino. "That's what I have - now make the most out of it and have some fun." I don't drink alcohol during the week -I have to get up very early- but I do enjoy it at the weekend and I am willing to trade my calories for it.

I must sound like a nutcase. I do wonder if you guys log the alcohol as well.

    I do.

My preference is beer. I allow myself two beers per weekend night. If I choose more (like I am tonight), I cut back on dinner. Tonight, I get air-popped popcorn.

My birthday was last month, and I really went overboard. Still tracked, showed a calorie overage, and got back on track the next day.

    Cheers!

Yep, I log my alcohol. Since I drink craft brews, I usually have to find something similar in the database. But I log them all. I was kind of surprised to find there is a large amount of different alcohol types in the database.

I don't drink really anymore, but definitely log it if you do.

Yes, I log my alchohol calories. I treat those calories much the way you do. Generally, I try to earn them ( the extra calories for food and drinkies) through exercise on the days I know I am going to eat out or to a party. I feel that works better than trying to work those calories off the day after!

Why is that nuts? Of course I log alcohol. I try to save a few hundred calories for it across the week. I'm single at 31 in NYC. I'm going to drink.

I log every alcoholic drink I consume, and that includes having to do some heavy research on some of the things I log because they aren't in the database and as you probably know, looking up calories for many alcoholic beverages is hard since they aren't required to put any sort of nutritional info on their packaging.

I feel weird about it, but.. being that I do have a slight history with alcohol (in the regards you were speaking of), I find it helps keep me accountable and is something tangible I can look at.

So I am like you. For instance, I wanted wine tonight, but since the spouse brought home take-and-bake pizza, I ran out of my "calorie money" for the day. A pity, but it is what it is.

Alcohol (and the stuff you mix with it) has calories, sometimes quite a bit. Definitely log it and factor it into your calorie :) Not understanding why you'd feel bad logging it though?

    Sure I do!
A nice glass of wine doesn't sound like a waste to me.

I don't drink anywhere near the amount of Guinness my log shows. At least 2/3rds is a nut brown at a local brewery/pub.

Yes, I drink and I log it. 3 glasses of wine last night. Went over by ~50 cals, but on a 1000 cal deficit, it ain't making a big difference and I was under the day before.
