Hi everyone!

The hardest part of sticking to my calorie goal is my night time snacking. I do great all day, than around 8pm I crave something sweet or a carb snack. Any ideas on how to get away from this? I feel like I undo my hard work during the day. And I've been maintaining, but I really want to lose 10lbs.

Thanks for the help!!

I know I like eating at night, so I plan my day to include food at night. It means I generally eat less during the day (I usually don't eat til lunchtime or later), but this suits me.

You could just save some calories for a late night snack.

But maybe you aren't eating enough during the day or maybe you are snacking out of boredom. Not a bad idea to think about why you want to snack at night.

If it's just habitual eating , try to plan a snack that fills the need but is low cal (air popped popcorn? Cucumber and low fat dip? Low fat cool whip on berries? ). If you are actually hungry, try upping your protein content during the day. I find that helps keep me feeling full longer.

Protein, Protein, Protein!! You need something that is low carb/low sugar but will satisfy you...I have the same problem--heck night-snacking is my problem! We are called 'wolves' because we "hunt" for food at night. Most ;wolves' have weight issues. My advice Greek or Icelandic yogurt...Try and find one that is 80 calories or the sugar is less than 10g. Protein fills you up!

I'm exactly the same, down to the 8pm munchies. I go to bed every night between 7-8 and watch tv in there or read. It's so much more comfortable than sitting on the couch, and once I'm in bed I couldnt be bothered getting up. For some reason i don't get the snack attacks if I'm in bed.

I just plan it as part of my day. I find that if I know I get to have something I want at night, it's easier for me to stay on track during the day. I leave a certain amount of calories out just for TV watching snack.

Usually at night I'm tired, and possibly dehydrated a little, both of which send snack craving thoughts to my stomach and head. I generally try and ignore the craving if I'm not getting any other hunger signals. But to say I've never caved and had some peanut butter, or a something would be a lie. I generally try not to keep snack foods in my house on purpose so I don't have those temptations, or I'll try and save room for a little something after I eat dinner. I always tell people I come from a family of snackers - my dad will brag about how well he ate, then go back to the fridge for a leftover (different from dinner), popcorn, or nuts, or chips or cookies or any combination thereof.

This is me exactly! I've just this week begun pre-logging, and adding in some after-dinner treats has made a big difference in my ability to stick with my calorie goal. Even having my dinner calories planned out already helps me not overeat earlier in the day.

I've also found a few 100-calorie snacks (1/2 cheese stick or small chunk of salami with a few crackers, a light beer, 1 or 2 cookies, popcorn, etc) for watching TV after dinner. I find that just 1 or 2 of these is enough (usually!), and doesn't break the calorie bank. It's also incentive to get in some exercise calories so I can have these!

I stop eating just before bed. It is all in my calorie limit. It doesn't bother me. I don't like to torture myself so I leave calories for that time. If I decide I don't need them, so much better. I'm also maintaining and also would like to lose another 10.
