Weight loss causing bedwetting?

Hello,
I have lost about 75lbs so far and its been great, but since ive started losing ive noticed an annoying side effect: bladder control problems. I googled it and didnt find much other than people saying its a natural part of aging but im young. My question is basically is anyone else dealing with this? Is there anyway to stop it?
Thanks

How much water are you drinking? It's definitely not something I've heard of before. I'd check with your doctor.

Stupid question maybe, but one of the common dieting tips is to drink more water, so: Are you drinking a lot more water?

I would suggest seeing your doctor. Weight loss itself shouldn't cause this. There are other causes, but you need you review this with a medical professional.

I agree with the person who said it is probably because you are drinking more water.

Agree with the others that it's likely due to drinking too much water/fluids, especially 1-2 hours before bedtime. If you're currently doing that, stop and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, then it might be time to make an appointment with your doctor or a urologist.

Bed wetting can be caused by many things. I suggest you see your doctor. It could be anything from MS to a tumor or pinched nerve. This needs to be seen by a medical professional.

You want to see a doctor and your OB to make sure there aren't any other issues...

See your doctor for a referral to a urologist. This is a common sign of pelvic floor dysfunction (which can happen when atrophy occurs in your pelvic floor muscles) and is a common sign in individuals who are overweight, who have had children, or who have had hysterectomies. There's also damage that can occur in the sacral nerves (which could be neurological).

I won't speculate though, I would go to the doctor so they can see what's going on.

I often wake up in the middle of the night needing to pee because I am trying to drink more... so I have stopped drinking much an hour before bed... I've never not woken up though

Yes you most definitely want to get in to see your Doc ASAP so if need be he/she can send you to a specialist. When do you start college, the Fall?

100% see a doctor. There are so many variables or possibilities but it's definitely something that needs to be checked out.

Cool! I can finally comment on the topic.

When I was much heavier, I would tinkle the bed a few times a year. Since I've lost significant weight, I haven't had the problem.

If it's happening more as you're losing, that's definitely a problem. 2 L a day isn't a massive, wet-yourself amount, especially if you're stopping hours before sleep and going before bed. It could be a bladder or gynecological condition that just happens to be manifesting at the same time as you're losing. Something as simple as a low-grade infection, or more complicated like a structural problem, or worse. Head to the doc. It's not as scary as you think. Pee in a cup, maybe some bloodwork, an ultrasound or some other diagnostic imaging.

This is going to sound odd but aside from a possible prolapse and a few other things your doctor can check you for - food allergies will cause this. Dairy is considered a biggie for bladder incontinence and gluten is considered the second most common cause. While you're waiting to get into the doctor you might try pulling dairy 100% out for about 2 weeks and see if it improves. By that point your doctor's appt will likely have arrived and you will have some data to have him look at. If it is a food allergy causing it you have to cut it out 100%. It takes 1-2 weeks for it to clear the body and wetting to stop.

I agree with everyone who says to see a doctor but I am wondering if you've had anxiety issues as well? I have heard that either that or hormonal changes can sometimes cause it, if not something more serious.

Yes I do have anxiety issues, but I've had anxiety for a couple years and this has only started happening in the last 7-8 months.

Depression can cause you to not wake while wetting your bed, often people themselves don't realize they are depressed.

Go to the doctor. New incontinence at any age is cause for concern.

You also consume more water if you increased your fruit and vegetable intake. However, not getting up in order to pee is unusual. You won't be screwed by the time college starts as there is special underwear you can wear at night - I know, you don't want to hear that, but trust me, a lot of people with health issues that have to adjust to get by daily. I hope you can get in to see a doctor soon!

Do you sleep more deeply than before you lost weight?

My experience with my kids is the deep sleepers wet the bed, they just dont wake to the sense of needing to go. The light sleeper wakes to go. My daughter who has had medication to help expand her bladder (by relaxing it so the urge to go wasnt there all the time) and is pretty much dry now but if she's overtired she'll sometimes wet the bed.

I'd still see a dr. We delayed medication as we werent comfortable with the first option presented to us but when we saw a specialist they had an alternative medication which we were happier with (and worked well).

While you're waiting for your appointment with the doc, see if there is a continence information line in your area.
This is the Australian service and they have a free and confidential helpline which can be a great place to start. I've worked with a number of the continence nurses and they are very practical and helpful. You certainly don't have to put up with this, I'm glad you hear you are going to talk to your doctor. If they aren't helpful, try to see another one until you find someone who can help.

I agree about talking to your doctor.

I wonder if body temperature could be a factor? Maybe you're colder and its affecting you?

Or maybe you've lost some muscle during weight loss is an unfortunate area.

Could be a sleeping issue too. Maybe you're going too deep into sleep somehow.

Just throwing ideas out there. Definitely best to ask a doctor.

Please call tomorrow and make that MD appt. What you are describing is not normal, and you need medical attention asap.
