Feeling guilty

I am on my first week on mfp and am in training for a sprint triathlon. I ran and cycled today and had plenty of spare calories, so had takeaway pizza for dinner.

Even though I was within my calories for today, I feel guilty for having something so unhealthy.

Does anyone have any advice on changing my mindset regarding food?

Why do you think pizza is unhealthy?

there's nothing inherently wrong with it. It has carbs, protein, fat, etc.
You fit it into your calories, well done.

You didn't overeat the pizza, you were within your calories, you actually did a great job!

This. I don't deem specific foods as healthy or unhealthy. I use those words when evaluating an overall diet. And in my view, an overall diet that's balanced, varied and provides the nutrients I need is healthy. And yes, even foods that many deem "unhealthy", like pizza, desserts, fried foods, etc can easily fit into a healthy diet if eaten in moderation.

I usually write down my treats in advance. Once they're in the journal and I can see ahead of time that they fit my daily totals, I don't have the guilt anymore. It's "I anticipated this, I budgeted for it, and now... I'm going to enjoy it!"

If I were you, I would eat that pizza with pride, knowing it's the reward for a job well done! I just ran 12 miles today. I think I'll have pizza, too. I've got to do something with all those extra calories!!! B)

Thanks guys. Logically I know you're right, which is why I ordered it - I knew I had the calories available. I just didn't expect to feel as if I had let myself down once I had finished.

I guess I am still learning that no food is off limits, if it fits within your calorie allowance.

    You've got it! <3

Not to say that pizza every day is a good idea. Or just eating chocolate all day is a good idea. Even if it fits your calories.

But within a healthy, balanced diet, pizza is nirvana.

    And so is chocolate. :)

Pizza is fat, carbs, and if it had some meat, protein. What is unhealthy about macro-nutrients?

Don't think any food is unhealthy. There are food choices that are better for us nutritionally, but food is food!

Tasty fuel - nothing wrong with that. Gotta fuel those workouts, right?

If your whole day every day was all and only pizza, maybe that'd be a problem (or maybe not, depending on what the pizza had on it). But pizza once in a while? Good stuff for sure: Veggies - check; carbs - check; protein - check; fat - check. A-OK!

Pizza is not bad for weight loss. Guilt is (in my experience anyway - it tends to make me binge). So keep the pizza and lose the guilt.
