I'm posting over on Instagram ( buckley.dermot ) and updating on the community too. I've been dieting for 6 days and lost 5kg (11lbs) already! Delighted with my progress. If you're a heavily overweight man or woman like me please join me in our journey to finally lose the weight. Alternatively, if you're a weight loss expert and you want to help me or us with sucessful weight loss tips, please post here with me.

I'm eating flaxseed and hempseed to add vitamins and fiber and unsaturated fat to my diet and eating low carb cereal most meals.

Most meals are between 500 to 800 calories. My goal is 69kg. I currently weigh 122kg. This is going to take me around 1 year to do if I go by the 1kg a week weight loss plan that the calorie counter algorithm creates.

What way can I speed this up? Is it low fat dieting or low carb dieting I should go for? I have about 1800 calories a day I can eat. Will my high fat, low carb diet plan I have created myself get me to my goal weight within the year or will it take me longer?

Low carb, low fat, anything in between, it doesn't matter. Pick the diet that feels easiest for you and you will lose weight if you stay within calories. Also be prepared for it to take you more than a year. 1 kg a week is fine to start with, but there will be a point where your calories won't go any lower than 1500 and your weight loss will likely slow down gradually. It's also recommended that as you lose weight you switch the algorithm to 0.5 kg a week and eventually 0.25 kg a week. The last 10 kg will be the slowest. That's exactly why you need to find a diet that makes you happy. If you are struggling you aren't likely to last long. Accounting for the slow down and the random special events every now and then, prepare for a minimum of 1.5 years to lose the weight.

If you also introduce exercise you will be able to eat even more than 1800 calories. Many people add exercise then eat back 50%-75% of the extra calories the exercise gives them. For example: you exercised, added it to the system, and it says you burned 400 calories. Your diary will show that you can eat 2200 (1800+400). To be safe that your exercise isn't over-estimated, you eat 2000 calories (1800+200).

Can I ask how tall you are? 69kgs is pretty light for a man.
