Logging Question

Probably a silly question but here goes anyway:

I have a Fitbit Surge. It tracks just about everything. If I'm using the presets on the Surge or even if I'm not---is there a reason that I need to track specific activities? I would assume that the tracker is estimating calorie burn automatically with increased heartrate and automatic activity tracking.

I guess what I'm saying is--If I go run a 5k, without using the preset on the surge for a run (say I forgot to set it), should I add the activity as well? Seems to me that would double-log the same activity? Or am I confused?

Thanks!

Some people like to eat a lot of extra calories so they log exercise separate. I never found that to be helpful so I just let fitbit do its thing. I don't have a surge so I'm not sure what the preset is. If you use the correct start and end time though it will overwrite any info MFP had during that time so you wouldn't be double dipping.
