Simply the bodies reaction and proper adjustment to having a baby. You'll drop weight naturally over the next year, so start as slow as the Dr's recommend, then as you can increase activity and have less and less demand for breast feeding you can start to do more.
Worked well for my wife with both our boys.0 -

You just made and had a baby, now you are trying to nourish the baby. Cut yourself some slack and take care of you so you can take care of her. I assume her, based on posted pic. You will get there, once I was able to get back on a normal routine the weight took care of itself. Till then I enjoyed the down time and bonding with my babies.0

I just weaned my son (15 months) a couple weeks ago. I didn't even actively cut calories the first 12 months I was nursing because it affected my milk supply. Try to relax. Your body just did an amazing thing and will need time to recover and heal. Eat well, bond with your new little one, and let yourself heal. Try not to push yourself too hard. I promise you will get to a place where it's easier and you will feel much better. Good luck, mama!0

I am also nursing, and have been stuck up until a couple weeks ago. I'm now eating the recommended minimum for nursing mothers (1800 cals), and the weight is starting to come off. My baby is 7 months old, and we have been supplementing with formula for a few months because he goes to daycare during the week, and I have never been able to pump enough to keep up. He still nurses in the morning and at night, and my supply seems to be fine.0
