Interval Training and Calorie Calculating

Hey guys,

I was wondering while calculating my calories burned during Insanity if I should be including rest time as well in the "duration." The only reason I ask is because every rest I take my heart rate is near 172, so my body is still pumping but I'm not using muscle.

Side note: I've seen people claim over 1000 calories for insanity, and they must be insane. For 28 minutes of actual "burn time" at a heart rate of 165 (I averaged) I only come up with between 400-450 while some are claiming 750-900 for the same workout. Anyone know why people claim this, or is it just over zealous so they can eat more?

    You can calculate your rest time. Calories burn at rest. Resting metabolic rate. High intensity training you can burn around 160calories in 10mins or so. Depending what they use to calculate. Some may not be 100% accurate but everyone does not work out at the same pace you do.

    I'm definitely not an expert, but I'm thinking that after, say, a steady run a person wouldn't include the extra time that the heart rate was still elevated in the logged exercise time. Just a thought.

    Heart lags power. You already used your muscle and burned the calories, your heart rate is just catching up with it.
