Squat rack too high.

I used to barbell squat 4 years ago and did quite well. I have recently joined a gym and am following phase 1 of nrolfw. Problem is I can't place the barbell on the rack so I can comfortably get under it and place it on the correct position under my traps. It's either slightly too high or too low. I end up losing my tightness when I unrack and the bar ends up at the bottom of my neck. Can I stand on a small box when I setup then step off it to do the squats? It's literally only a few inches too high. Maybe they wouldn't mind if I drill a few more holes in the rack :-)

I always set mine too low rather that too high. Much easier to unrack a heavy weight with the legs rather than the toes. Honestly, stepping on and off something is probably fine in early days, but you don't want to be relying on that when you're getting near maximal poundages. Walking out a 1RM is hard enough without having to worry about stepping down and tipping over.

The best bar height is to be slightly lower.

Walk up to bar and place feet in your exact squat position and after going through your checklist of pre racking, literally squat it up. Then do either your two or three step movement to begin your set.

It takes the least amount of energy and is the safest way.

Set it lower and do what they said to do up there.
