I'll give the plate-loaded squats a try, but it seems more complicated for a newbie than good ol' goblet squats. With the plate squat, i think many people are going to round their upper spine or shoulders. Plus if you look at the front view in the video, the plate isn't centered in front of him. That could cause back strain in a newbie.
