Syncing fit bit

Hello!! I am going through some technical issues to be able to sync my Fitbit. I was just curious... what does syncing do? Does it allow for more activity calories? I do not want to use those 'baseline' calories if they are awarded because that is what was used to determine daily calorie goal and deficit for weight loss.
Thanks for any info!

There's this awesome Fitbit group on MFP, where member @heybales broke everything down in an FAQ section: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10098937/faq-syncing-logging-food-exercise-calorie-adjustments-activity-levels-accuracy/p10

Fitbit gives a second opinion on your activity level - if you set MFP to sedentary and Fitbit measured a higher level of activity then it would crank up your calories intake to suit.0
