Being stuck in the 90's as far as technology goes (meaning I am tech impaired), I thought I would appeal to the younger folks who always seem to know more about computers than my generation does....

..So, here the thing:

Hubs and I are finally going away on a weekend vaca and leaving our 13 yr,. old in the dutiful hands of her grandma, who does not have a computer. Is there a way for my daughter to use her laptop at grandma's house if g-ma does not have an internet conenction? Perhaps something wi-fi related? Or is there a "stick" of some sort I can buy that she can plug into her laptop and get the Internet for a couple days?

Thanks in advance for any computer-related advice.

You can get a portable Wifi hotspot through your cell phone provider.

^^That or get a broadband card. Or, crazy idea, kid will have to be without interwebs for a whole 2 days...OH NOES!

If gma does not have internet, she can still use her computer but not go online like facebook or email or anything. If she has a cell phone you could check to see how much hot spot is to add onto your account. And also I know like verizon and some other companies make like wireless cards you can plug into the computer to get internet wherever you go, but might be expensive. Might be better to just leave her internet less for a couple of days?

I'll second the tethering option if her cell phone supports it. Though to answer your direct question, the laptop will function perfectly fine offline.

This, but it will use lots of data, which can get expensive if she uses it a lot and goes over.
