I notice my body goes through patterns where all I want to do is eat soft pretzel, candy and anything that's carb & sugar heavy. What's a good substitute to stave off this kind of craving when it comes and goes?

    Oh, and don't demonize food.
Trying not to.. I only do because I'm recovering from binge eating problems, so I avoid what triggers me wanting to eat more in the first place.

That's hard, but it can be done. Lots of work on habits and mindset, finding other ways to handle emotions and stress etc. Balancing structure with freedom. It takes time. It can get better.

I get that carb urge also about once each month. I figure that it's my brain screaming at me to refill the glycogen tank. I try to cut off the eating before I get 1000 calories over my food target. How often do you experience it?

That's me before my period every month. I just try to make it fit in my days, and I try to be more active to make it fit.

Not all people can handle moderation...i can't eat sugar because even if I have a little I can't stop...it's been 3 months no sugar and I feel great

That's me too. For me, it's best to avoid those foods completely.... Helps my health too.

Possibly find recipe for reasonable calorie versions of what you start craving, then make a small batch. Not only will making them reduce calories by being lower calories but the time it takes to get them made might give your cravings a little time to subside. And also make sure you're eating regularly enough that you don't get a hungry feeling because that can trigger or amplify cravings

I find lack of sleep causes me to crave quick energy, aka carbs. If that is an issue try improving sleep patterns.

    Oh, about one a month..

The sleep advice makes sense too. I have been having trouble with sleeping the past few days
