What should I be eating to get up to 1,500 calories?

Possible stupid question, but I'm confused because I worked out that I'm supposed to eat that amount to lose weight, buuut I keep reading advice on how you shouldn't eat food like cheese for example too often. But if I just eat healthy and low-fat food than I find it really hard to get my calories up to the recommended amount. It sounds silly, but that's what I'm struggling with right now because I want to lose weight healthily and stick to the recommended 1500-1600 calories, but I don't understand how you can do that while eating food that's low in calories?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but right now I'm aiming to eat eat better with more food like veg, fruit, eggs for breakfast etc, which means my meals are mostly coming out at around 400 calories at the most. So is it wrong to for example eat bacon and sausage for breakfast in order to up my calories, even though I always hear that stay away from fatty food like that and go for the healthy and lower calorie option if you want to lose weight? But having a boiled egg for breakfast only works out at 108 calories? That's what I'm trying to say, that when I eat the healthy food that you're told to stick to if you want to keep weight off, it generally doesn't add up to enough calories for my BMI

You don't need to eat foods that are low in calories or low in fat. And absolutely have the bacon if you like bacon. Eat what you enjoy eating, in portions that it fits within your calorie and nutrition goals.

Okay thanks! I'm just confused because everyone is always saying stuff like cheese or idk roast potatoes are good occasionally but not all the time, so I feel like I should cut back on stuff like that if I want to adopt a healthier eating habit, but I can't get much above 1,200 calories if I do eat completely healthy with lean meat and lots of veg

Exactly. One thing that has been great about tracking my calories is realizing I can have foods that I like. (Like my small Dairy Queen Strawberry Sundae - 260 calories nom nom.) I can't live on protein shakes and special k alone.

You're going to have a hard time if you try to cut out all the food that people claim is bad for you. Just be reasonable, hit your calories and macros, and look at MFP's protein goal as a minimum.

    Good luck!

Special K is unhealthy-- because grains.
