Comparing workouts

So here's what prompts my question. I went to a half hour workout class at a heated yoga studio today. Rather than actual yoga, it was more like an aerobics or boot camp class targeted at core/glute strengthening. Among other moves, the fast-paced class called for over 200 squats (various poses); I just took my time and did however many I could with correct form without passing out in the heat. I hated it, and I also didn't think it was a "smart" workout. It seems more efficient and effective to do 50 most days a week, than to do 200 at once and not be able to walk for 4 days.

I'm trying to be more active, and along with walking, 5-6 days a week I do strength training exercises- one for legs/glutes, one focused on core (even though core is part of everything), and one focused on arms. I do 3 sets of 10-12 reps of each exercise, and I usually feel it the next day. I mix it up to try new moves and work different muscle groups. Is this enough to build lean muscle and improve my overall appearance (along with weight loss achieved by eating at a calorie deficit)? I'm 5"2 145lbs; I'd like to weigh around 130 but really am just focused on looking and feeling good.

Thank you!

Sounds like you're off to a good start. That class sounds crazy!

I would follow a proven strength program, like NROL4W, Stronglifts, a personal trainer's plan, etc. Self-designed programs frequently are imbalanced. :+1:
