"A 1 oz. serving of boiled and shelled peanuts contains 90 calories, versus 166 calories in the same serving of dry-roasted shelled peanuts and 170 calories in dry-roasted almonds"

That's quite some calorie saving...Is this correct?

I have never run into boiled peanuts, but boiling adds water, and water has weight but no calories, so...

    According to the USDA database:
Peanuts, all types, cooked, boiled, with salt 11.84 g water and 90 calories per ounce
Peanuts, all types, dry-roasted, with salt .51 g water and 166 calories per ounce

I think the difference is in the amount of water changing the weight.

boiled peanuts are going to absorb some water...so 1 ounce of boiled peanuts is going to be less peanuts than 1 ounce of raw peanuts.

I would imagine that some oil is rendered out in the boiling process as well.
