I'm seeing a lot of cheat day posts, how many people have cheat days? And what exactly are you cheating with?

"Cheat Day" just sounds like a childish concept to me...like losing weight and adopting a healthy lifestyle is some kind of game. We are all adults and, for the long run, need to learn how to balance our diets without feeling the need to "cheat." If you include the foods that you love into your daily routine, and make them fit into your calorie goal, there would be no need for a "cheat day".
That being said....of course there are special occasions that you want to splurge and not care about calorie goals (Birthday, vacations, etc). That's a normal part of life and won't hurt you in the long run. But, I cringe every time I see someone type that every Saturday is their "cheat day". To each their own, I guess, but it seems like an odd concept to me.1 -
I do, but they're not true cheat days, I just let myself have one or two things I normally do not include in my diet and I still try to stay under my calories. Honestly, the "cheat day" paired with IF has given me the greatest success beating my binge eating.1

What is a cheat day? Is it just letting yourself go nuts? Probably not a good idea. Having something you may not eat on the regular? No biggie...I don't tend to think of it as "cheating." We have pizza night most Friday evenings...I pick up the boys from school and we swing by our favorite local pizzeria on the way home and sit down to a movie and eat our pizza...it's just a fun little tradition we've established and it's pretty irrelevant to the whole of my diet.
There are also other occasions for which I indulge, but it's generally a meal, not an entire day. Last night my wife and I had a date night and went to a very nice steakhouse...I ordered a 14 oz NY strip steak that came with potatoes and veg...it was huge and definitely more than I would typically eat, but it was a special night...it's not particularly relevant and was offset by the fact that I had a small breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast and a nice big salad with chicken for lunch and a 20 mile bike ride...no biggie.
I think it's more important that one learns how to balance a healthy diet and exercise with life and living it.3
