“No one can fully understand the meaning of love unless he's owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes. ”

Long one:
If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery--isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is. ~Charles Bukowski

It's never too late to be what you might have been. ~George Eliot

I love hundreds of Bible quotes, so it's kinda sad that the ones I remember frequently are from the movie "Roadhouse":
Quote 1 - "Be nice, be nice, until it's time not to be nice."
Quote 2 - "Nobody ever WINS a fight."0 -

I might be breaking the rules a bit because this is a parable rather than a quote, but I like it.
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied,“The one you feed.”1 -
I've posted this recently somewhere else around. I choose to believe it speaks on perseverance.
„It's about why we don't explode, why we don't just wake up one day and go sobbing and crying down the street, kicking everything to pieces out of the raw, infuriating, completely personal sense of our lives never having been what they could have been.” - M.J. Harrison for The Guardian, about a book very dear to me (Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro).0 -
"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages."
