Hi I'm trying to find friends who are breastfeeding and trying to lose weight. I was losing pretty good (35+ so far) but then it started affecting my milk supply. I still have 25lbs to go. Any advice would be appreciated! My son is almost 6 months now.

I don't have much advice in the current. My son is now 2, and I breastfed him for the first year, and absolutely could not lose weight. Any time I cut my calories down, my milk supply dropped dramatically. I just toughed through the timeline and after he stopped nursing, I lost 10 lbs almost immediately. I never found anything that worked, but you definitely are NOT alone! There are many of us that struggled through this time.

One of the most important things (OK, well, two) for your milk supply is to get adequate rest and to drink lots of non-caffeinated fluids. I don't think you have to try very hard to lose weight when you are breastfeeding. I gained 36 lbs while pregnant, and without even trying, I lost 50 lbs in 4 months...and I was thin to begin with. I think breastfeeding helps a lot. And it is good for your baby.

I am ebf my 9 week old and currently lost 15.4lbs and have another 16 or so to go. My supply hasn't been affected but I pump once in the morning and once at night. I also drink Mother's Milk Tea once a day at lunch time. I eat a high protein diet and stay away from carbs for the most part. I also drink anywhere from 14-19 glasses of water a day. Feel free to add me.

My advice would be to not cut calories drastically. Aim for a loss of about 1 lb per week. Might be slow but won't affect your supply. I exercise which allows me to eat 1800-2000 cals daily and still lose weight. I eat a moderate carb, protein and fat diet. I don't believe in cutting out entire food groups!

PS. I'm 5'1 and I exclusively breastfeed my FAT 4 1/2 month old baby.
