Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to My Fitness Pal. I've been doing this for approximately 3-4 weeks now, and have lost 15 lbs in the first week and a half.
I gained a ton of weight when I injured my back, off loading a patient out of my ambulance almost 3 years ago. I just got my back surgery July 25th, 2016. Recovery has been super long, however I'm still trying to get cleared to go back to work, and the gym. It's a daily struggle mentally, emotionally, and physically to keep going when you keep getting knocked down.
My passion (working in EMS), was taken from me, my quality of life (depleted), and constant pain has been an experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Then I lost my mom on the 27th of February in 2016.
I just want to catch a break, besides my back, heart, mind, feelings, and emotions. On the bright side of things, this app has been so simple, easy, effortless to use, and achieve great results. How many of you find it the same way? B)

I'm sorry to hear about all your hardship :( but I'm glad you're here, and I'm sure many others are as well. The app is pretty great, but they key is using it correctly (something I'm not doing a very good job of lately haha). But welcome!

Welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I'm supposed to have neck surgery soon, just had the MRI yesterday. I'm a nurse and the medical field is so hard on the body. Good luck and again welcome.

Wow things have been rough. I'm sorry! 2016 wasn't a good year for me either. My 11 year old also had back (spine) surgery. It was NO joke. Worst thing I have witnessed another person go though for sure!

    Glad you're on the mend.

Yes I find the app easy to use. Unless my "meal or recipe" isn't inputted. I'm lazy and don't want to do it myself lol.

I feel your pain (well, back pain, at-least), Brother... I too am recovering from a recent back surgery.

I started using MFP, and started to gain a healthy lifestyle several years back, after my 1st. lower back surgery; 7 years ago I had an L3/L4 laminectomy, and was warned that the level below may give me "issues" later-on... and sure-enough!!

    - 2 years ago I messed-up my knee while running, had meniscus repair surgery on my left knee, then during that recovery my L4/L5 blew-out on me. I regained about 45 Lbs. after injuring my knee & back, due to pain, frustration & inactivity.

I'm a little over 3 months out of my (back/Laminectomy) surgery, and have begun my journey to regain my health. Some residual back pain/numbness & weakness in my back and down my legs & into my foot, and my knee still sucks, but it gets better every day. PT does help.

I don't think I'll run again, but I can walk hard, and my bicycle has become my best friend, since purchasing a BKool trainer/simulator. (I live on the frozen north, & can't ride outside for 6 months out of the year.)

I know that I can do this... and I know that you can, also.

I wish you well - GO GET 'EM!
