Hey everyone

did my yearly physical this week and just got my results back. everything was good except they said to come back in a week to get retested because my liver enzymes were slightly elevated.

i have never heard of this before so wanted to see if anyone's ever experienced this? i did a google search and its all over the place

Im a casual drinker- 2-3 a week, take creatine, ZMA, and BCAAs and im on a high protein diet.

also ive been taking Amoxicillin for a tooth infection for the past week.

Do you think any of this could have contributed?

Which specific enzymes? “Elevated”--by how much--a “not a concern” thing or a major problem? Your doc should tell you how much of a problem this is and what you should be doing. If I was you, I’d be getting qualified professional medical evaluation and advice--not unqualified input from anonymous internet forum posters, who may or may not know anything.

I remembered reading a thread about this YEARS ago now, so some of the information might have changed. IIRC someone linked a Layne Norton article about. So basically if you're eating moderate-high protein having elevated liver enzymes is something that's expected.

Here's a video, and he starts talking about it around 3:30-4 mark.

It can be due to many things and it can come and go. That's why doc want to retest it. Doctor would be the best one to answer your questions. It depends on which enzymes, how elevated, and other aspects of your medical history. Don't worry.

creatine can make it high,so can PPIs and other meds too.I know about the creatine/PPIs because I was using a pre workout with creatine in it and usually my enzymes are normal. That time my enzymes came back high, same with the PPI I was taking. each time was a different occasion and levels were normal in between those times. But it could be caused by a health issue too.ask your doctor how high it is and if they are concerned.stop taking those things(except for the antibiotic) for now and see if it makes a difference.

Slightly tangent suggestion: When you get a blood test, ask how you can get a printed or electronic copy of the results. It's ever so much easier to research things on your own, or consult other professional sources, if you have the specific result in hand. Around here, most labs or the doctor's office will either give you electronic access, or send/hand over a printed copy.
