thank you for that thread. the post informing people that this site is BMR based and not TDEE based is a giant nugget of information as i'm sure a majority of the folks on here think it's TDEE based.
Actually this is ~kinda~ wrong... here's the test. Click "My Home"->Goals->Change Goals->Guided
Do you see the section that says "Activity level?" Sedentary, Light, Active, Very active, etc? They're not using the standard TDEE formula but they ~~ARE~~ using TDEE effectively... I'll show you using myself as an example: 294lbs, 5'9" tall, male, 36 years, 2lbs/week goal... Using standard formulas...
Basal Metabolic Rate: 2253.97 (male)
TDEE Sedentary Rate: 2704.76 (male) (2lbs/week) 1704.76
TDEE Light Activity Rate: 3087.93 (male) (2lbs/week) 2087.93
TDEE Moderate Activity Rate: 3493.65 (male) (2lbs/week) 2493.65
TDEE Very Active Rate: 3876.82 (male) (2lbs/week) 2876.82
TDEE Extremely Active Rate: 4282.54 (male) (2lbs/week 3282.54
Here are the numbers for myfitnesspal...
Sedentary: Net Calories Consumed* / Day 1,820 Calories / Day
Light Active: Net Calories Consumed* / Day 2,040 Calories / Day
Active: Net Calories Consumed* / Day 2,270 Calories / Day
Very Active: Net Calories Consumed* / Day 2,490 Calories / Day
So they're using a more narrow activity range than TDEE uses, but ... the numbers are pretty much the same... the reason is... it's just a slightly different formula so they can say they don't use TDEE while using TDEE, because it works.
Sedentary TDEE=Sedentary MFP
Light TDEE=Light MFP
No Analogy = Active MFP
Moderate TDEE = Very Active MFP
Very Active TDEE = No Analogy
Extremely Active TDEE = No Analogy
I've written applications to calculate this stuff, they use Mifflin - St Jeor equation for BMR and they just apply a multiplier to it... just like TDEE or maybe add a tiny bit of noise.
SEDMULT=1.2
LIGHTMULT=1.37
MODMULT=1.55
VERYMULT=1.72
EXTRMULT=1.9
Are the standard (rounded) TDEE multipliers...
So for all intents and purposes... it uses tdee.0 -

Ask Deks explained, it uses The NEAT method. It is not truly TDEE.0
