So is it better to focus on eating a high protein diet and weight lifting and doing cardio and losing weight
or to do weight lifting and cardio as well as dieting eating anything as long as I have a calorie deficit.
Which will make me lose more body fat?

I always found the best results (body composition wise) by weight lifting, keeping protein adequate and maybe some cardio if I have time. It will really depend on your goals.0

I want to start weight lifting when I have a lower body fat percentage0

You'll be happier in the long run if you start lifting now. Pinky swear.
Start with a progressive lifting program like Stronglifts 5X5 and eat at a slight/moderate deficit, depending on how much you have to lose.1 -

yup...
building muscle is hard. If you think losing weight is tough, you've not seen anything yet!
Retaining as much muscle mass as possible will make you a lot happier at the end when you have to try to build back what you lost.2 -

Start now... don't wait..
I started back at lifting after my second baby was born, still had lots of baby weight to lose.. it made such a huge difference, honestly, as the weight came off I retained muscle, lowered my BF%.. it was glorious. I am so glad I didn't wait (like I did after my first).0 -
I've just had my second baby 10 weeks ago and I've got about a good stone to lose in weight. I was gonna wait before I started but now it might be a good idea to just do it now.
Is having enough protein important?0 -
Not sure if you are breastfeeding or not, but if you are be sure to fuel adequately for that and don't cut the cals too low.
I would aim for protein to be 0.8g/lb or 1.8g/kg bodyweight which helps with muscle retention as well as satiety for most people.
Also, I would recommend following a lifting program: Strong Lifts, Strong Curves, Thinner Leaner Stronger, etc1
