The brain is willing but the body is not, sadly. I take medication for an under-active thyroid and according to my blood results that's been "in-check" for some time now but ive never felt any more energetic. Ive got high cholesterol and i want to do something about it but i really lack energy and therefore as a by-product of that - fitness too!
So, anybody got any tips to get me working off some calories please?!

coffee works great, caffeine boost will give you energy, a lot of people take a pre-workout supplement, many of which include caffeine.0

Are you getting an adequate amount of rest? I find it easier to exercise once I've slept about 7-8 hours; after a good stretching (not the get out of bed and yawn and reach, but a full blown chest, arm, and torso stretch), I'm ready to go.0 -
Exercising will likely increase your energy. Exercise is a choice, and until you've trained your body to desire it, you will never 'feel like' doing it. Make the choice today to get out and at least take a walk.0

Immediate thoughts.
1. consult your doctor for what can be done
2. If losing weight, decrease your deficit so you have more energy
3. If you are doing a lower carb diet, increase your carbohydrate intake.
4. Sleep more
5. Caffeine
ETA: Adding that after being sedentary I found my energy level low. But as I got back into excercising, the benefits started compounding and I found my energy level increasing. So paradox, conserving energy by being inactive makes you lethargic, while expending energy by excercising makes you energetic.0 -
Sounds counter productive to your question but exercise increases energy. Start by getting some fresh air on a nice brisk walk and build up from there.
i always feel brighter and more awake after a workout!0 -
Try exercising first thing in the morning, before the day wears you out. I find it easier to exercise in the morning (although getting up sucks!) and if I wait until evening I often lack the energy.0

Wow, some fast responses there, thank you! I will take some time to read through them. Caffeine does not seem to have any affect on me though.0

My man uses one-a-days for men.
Without them he is an exhausted mess.0 -
Well, i have just bought some Wellman Original Multi-Vit tablets, i hope that helps somewhat.0

Indoor "walking" is always good when it's blazing hot outside .....

These videos are good starters. You can do 5 minutes at a time & build up from there. Gradually increase your minutes.0 -
I am responding to this to help me remember what this is all about. I have been struggling for several years now. You have to take the first step. I have a lot of medical issues also, and I have a million valid excuses. Believe me I have used every single one that prevents me from getting started. 1. I have a ruptured disc. 2. I have stage 2 non-alcoholic liver disease. 3. I am to tired. 4. I have 3 kids, 1 has CP and is totally dependant on me for absolutly everything and I have no time. 5. My legs go totally dumb when I am on them for more than 5 minutes. I can go on and on. But today I drug my butt out of bed at 5:30am and went to curves. I worked out for 45 minutes, did my body tell me not to do it, absolutly. But I took the first step. I dont know what tomorrow is going to bring but I am going to get up at 5:30 and do it again no more excuses, My life depends on it. From what I see and read it will get easier. I hope you can try and do the first step just get up and do it. You can do it if you set your mind to it.
Also, talk to your Dr. Sleep Apne is a BIG energy drainer. If you are overweight this could be a reason you dont have any energy. Good luck on your journey. I drank a cup of coffee first thing for a little energy boost0 -
I like the early morning exercise. I have to do cardio at 4:30am, as I work at 7:00. Frankly, at that hour, unless I oversleep, I'm not awake enough to talk myself out of it. This also helps since I can no longer have caffeine, which is a VERY big life change for me.
Also, make sure you are eating enough calories. I've just raised my cals to appx 1600. My plan is to hold here for a week or two more, then see if I can raise it again.
Someone mentioned sleep apnea. Good idea to get tested for that....0 -
Honestly, I found that I have more energy since I started exercising. Take a walk in the morning. It does wonders. I walk 1-1:15 hour in the morning and I feel super energized throughout the day because of it.0
