You need to create a calorie deficit to lose weight.2

Hi thanks for response, yes am starting to cut calories and rubbish, just heard somewhere that lifting light but high reps would tone and help weight loss due to muscle being heavier than fat or something along those lines.0

Weight lifting is a great thing to incorporate into your regime. It promotes muscle retention which can improve metabolism and body composition (your look) but you still need to address calories. So set up your account to lose about 1 lb per week. I would aim to get .6 to 1g of protein per lb of weight (more towards the right if you are in a good weight already). And follow a predesigned structured lifting routine like NROL4W, StrongCurves, or Thinner Leaner Stronger

You heard incorrectly. That's an old myth that just won't die.
Here - these two threads will/should help you greatly. The first is an overall guide. The second is a pretty good list of various strength programs that you could follow.

I'm new (again) to the weight lifting world, and really like the Stronglifts 5x5 program. It's simple, it doesn't take 2 hours, and you will get stronger fairly quickly. If you are week like I am/was... you'll need to start lighter than they recommend, but that's ok. You'll get there. Having a plan and then executing the plan is the best way to go about it, though. Once you pick a plan, stick with it for at least 8 weeks before you try something different (unless you absolutely hate it... but don't quit because you don't feel like you're progressing/losing weight/etc).0

Thanks for the message, think my biggest issue is I have no upper body strength, I can't even do a press up, so lifting weights is really difficult so tends to put me off.0

If you need to, start with a body weight or dumbbell program. StrongCurves has a body weight and barbell program. The aworkoutroutine and M&S routines (dumbbells) are very simple and good starts.0 -
Thanks, I've done some dumbbell workouts before, have been looking at the links so will find one and stick with it...thanks again0
