I Hate Cardio

But I did it anyway, gosh darn it!
Started with 30 minutes on the treadmill, alternating between a fast walk on a moderate incline, slow walk on high incline and jogging on a low incline. Followed by 20 minutes of Shoulders/Arms & Core and finished on the stationary bike for 30 minutes.
My legs feel like jelly.

Cardio and lifting weights is for fitness and health. They are NOT necessary for weight loss if that is your goal. There are so many examples of lifters don't do cardio and are fit and lean.

I won't try to out run a zombie. I'll just grab a person next to me (who's not a family member) and toss them at them.

There's wisdom in here for everybody who says they hate cardio.0 -
I dislike exercise full stop so I explore different things. Running is so low on my list of what you can get me to do for cardio the zombies would have me every time.
Try, Zumba, belly dancing, swimming, aqua fit, Pilates, etc, etc, etc.
Join a team sport.
Set a goal-swimming meant I could snorkel in the Caribbean, walking meant I could spend the day walking around Pompeii without being exhausted, Zumba and belly dancing means I can dance until dawn, lifting and Pilates means I can climb and rappel down cliffs, cycling means I can rent a bike and ride around Bruges.
Yeah I hate cardio- but I love what it allows me to do.
Think outside the box and find what inspires for you.
Cheers, h.7 -

Yep ... another one here who isn't all that keen on running (although walking and hiking is all right) but who loves cycling.0

I can't say I love running, but I love how I feel afterwards. It never feels easy for me so I always feel like I did something great when I power through and get it done4
-
I typically do very little cardio0

I can't wait until it's bicycle weather again for me1

I love this thread. OP, I hope you got the validation you wanted/needed
(P.S. I love my deep water cardio class and I'm not ashamed to admit it. AND, my Sunday runs with my sister-if you call 12 minute trail miles a "run" haha!!)0 -

I switch it up throughout the year. Late spring thru summer and fall, I have a regular schedule of mountain biking and pickleball. I also walk my dog through the forest every morning for a couple miles.
When it gets too cold out, I move indoors to the gym and do the elliptical a couple times/week, plus I increase my outdoor walking distance to 3-5 miles/day. Just when I'm sick of elliptical, hey, it warms up and I pull my bike and paddle out; yay!
[note, weightlifting occurs year-round...because lifting is great]
Point being, you don't have to slog through something you hate; or if you feel you must, it doesn't have to be forever. Shake it up.0 -
Running outside is much funner2

Every surface where I live is sheer ice or 3 feet of snow right now - in a few months though, I'll definitely do that.0 -
Combat cardio boredom with boxing style workouts like hitting a heavy bag, double ended bag, or speed bag, jumping rope, and shadow boxing. You can add knees, elbows and kicks to your repertoire, and do calisthenics in between, like jump squats, push-ups and crunches. Walking lunges on the treadmill are also good.0

This is the best. Cardio and I are not friends in anyway!0

Well try 15 min warmup cardio then 30-45min weight traning then end with another 15 min cardio (the warmup cardio should get your heart pumping but not over the fatburning heart rate, while the cardio at the end should be used to slow down your heart rate for example 5min running,5min fast walking then 5 min slow walking)0

I love cardio.

Ditto. I don't know it. I have no cardio goals. I've become the typical chunky little power lifter....I might try to do some to lean out for summer but god, probably not.1

I've never understood the "do cardio" "hate cardio" kind of rhetoric. There are too darn many activities under that umbrella to say anything much sensible about them as a group. That nice @middlehaitch named a bundle of the individual possibilities, and others have named their faves, too.
Me, I love to row, on the water. Biking is fun (when it's too windy to row). Spin class is fun, too.
Treadmill? Elliptical? Just shoot me now.
OP, good for you for getting in a solid workout. Keep that up. If you're not finding it fun, keep trying different things - giving each enough time that you get past the newbie awkward stage, before you give up on it - until you find something fun. That makes it so much easier and happier!
