Hi.
So motivation and support helps keep me going as I know it does for lots if you. I was thinking that we should have a motivation thread. So let's write, 1 struggle you had to over come, how you overcame it, and what motivates you to continue. So I will start. One struggle that I had to overcome was my sugar tooth. Donuts and chocolate just hit that spot right on! I overcame the challenge by eating then about once a week in moderation. One thing that motivates me is going to sleep at night and knowing that I am getting healthier each and every day!

Sugar! I decided in November to tackle this. The main change I made was to stop having sweet things in the house. Cakes, biscuits, ice cream, chocolate, all the usual suspects. I didn't have them here all the time, but if I DID buy them, they didn't last long!
I had a medical check up at around this time, so I asked the nurse for advice. She said it's best not to completely give it up all at once, because it's so hard to be perfect from day one. Very likely to fail and then be disheartened. So I decided I would still have cake if I went out for coffee, or still have the occasional pudding if I went out for lunch. But that might be once or twice a week, plus it's intentional eating. This is helpful for me because I eat when I'm bored, or fed up, or sad, or ... you name it.
Well, miraculously, it seems to have worked. It's been about 4 months now, and I've only completely fallen off the wagon once. A really bad week, very tired, very stressed, and for several days I did eat sweet things, But on the whole it has worked.
What motivates me to keep going with this is the frightening links now being made between sugar intake and Alzheimers disease. Being in my 50s, it's something I'm becoming more aware of, and I want to do what I can to protect myself from it.1
