Calories automatically decreased

I recently recorded a small weight loss and noticed my calorie goal is 100 calories less than what it was set to before. Did the app automatically decrease my calories based on my weight loss?

yes, for every 10 pounds less you weigh it adjusts according to your current weight.1 -
Ok, less mass= less food to maintain weight I guess. I've only lost 4-5 pounds though. Starting weight 140. Current weight 135-136. It's been 7 weeks, so I've only lost about .5lbs a week at 1500 calories a day. My goal was 1pound a week, so it must recognize that I might be eating more than I'm logging. It adjusted me to 1400. More motivation to exercise so I can eat a little more I guess! Just kinda a surprise lol0

Maybe they changed it and it's not every 10 pounds? i could be wrong, but either way, yes that's why it happened.1

If you want, you can do a custom setting for calories and macros and the calorie target does not change until you change it yourself. MFP WILL notify you after each 10 lb you lose suggesting that you recalculate your calories.
You don't even need to actually change anything or just make a small change in one of your macros. As long as you are in custom rather than guided MFP will not automatically deduct as you lose.2 -
If I switch my goal to .5/week it jumps my calories up to 1650. I guess it accounts for my progress not matching my goal. Interesting.0

I could be wrong, but i dont think it is. MFP isn't that sophisticated.3 -
I like the 1500 calories for some reason. Good number. I know I can stick with it already... maybe I'll switch it back and see if I'm still losing. My TDEE is like 1900 (lightly active). I guess it'd be nice if there was a weight loss goal of .75/pounds a week. Ok, now I'm just being freaky OCD about the numbers. Thank you guys for the replies!0

Just remember that MFP is a tool and each of us should figure out how to best use the tool to reach our goals. If 1500 works for you, set it accordingly and see what happens. If is is no longer working the best, change it.1 -
When you update your current weight under Goals on the mobile app, MFP should display a pop-up prompt that asks you if you want to update your Goals. If you agree and update your weight under Goals, MFP will recalculate your Goals and if the estimated Calories have changed by about 10 Calories, then the Goals will be updated. So if you have been updating your current weight under Goals for maybe the first one to five pounds lost, the 10-Calorie threshold may not have kicked in and it may have appeared that nothing had changed. But, when you finally log a low enough weight, the amount would trigger the update and you would finally see a change in Goals.
When you update your current weight using Progress (on the app) or Check-In (on the web), MFP does not automatically recalculate your daily Calorie goal. If you continue to update your current weight under Progress or Check-In, MFP will only prompt or ask you if you want to update your Goals when there has been a total of 10 pounds lost since the last time you updated your Goals.1 -
I updated the weight loss in "goals" not in "progress". But I don't think anything notified me of the calorie goal change with a pop-up. I didn't consciously realize there are 2 places to record this! I've recorded changes in one menu one time, and the other menu another time. Thank you for pointing that out0

It wouldn't. Either MFP automatically lowers your calories if you are using the guided set-up OR it tell you that you need to consider re-calulating after you have lost 10 lb. if you are in custom set-up, not both.
PS: I only have one place to set up my targets, under "Goals" from the home page. Where is this other one you are seeing?0 -
The "progress" icon is at the bottom of the MFP mobile app. It says home, diary, progress, and more along the bottom. You have to exit out of the community forum to see the icons.0

That explains it. I only use the app when traveling. I prefer the website for all settings and most daily activity.0
