Has anyone heard of the boil egg diet and does it really work?

All you need is a calorie deficit. That is no way to learn how to eat for the rest of your life. Just eat food, food you like but less of it.18
-
Probably not. Typically you get the best results by setting realistic goals, eating balanced meals, and setting new habits you plan to continue long after the "diet" ends. Check out some of the great advice threads tagged at the top of the getting started board

Any diet that puts you in a calorie deficit will work.
The questions are is it healthy and can you sustain it so as to maintain your loss?
A better strategy would be to plug your stats into Mfp and eat foods you like so that you set yourself up for a successful maintenance.

I have heard of this. It works only if it causes you to incur a caloric deficit. Same as any other diet.4

There was a thread about this before. It looked like a horrible, boring, frustrating diet. If it makes you eat fewer calories than your body needs to maintain your weight, then it will "work" in the sense that you will lose weight - but it is totally unnecessary and the sheer boringness of it will make you very unlikely to stick to it and make it almost impossible for you to maintain the weight loss.
Forget silly fad diets. All you need to lose weight is to eat a bit less and/or move more. Counting calories allows you to do this without cutting out foods or following complicated rules. I highly recommend it.5 -
A friend did it, lost 6 pounds in about 6 days then couldn't cope anymore, binged like mad and is right back where she started.10

My advice is to use my fitness pal to figure out a calorie deficit goal and eat any food you like that fits your goal.
You want to eat in a way that satisfies you and that you can sustain long term.
Skip weird diets.2 -
My question is: Why? Why do a temporary fad diet? Why not do something you can stick with for life.
Why would you do that to yourself and those you live with/spend time with? It's fartacular....9 -
If it works I wouldn't know, since I hate boiled eggs0

That's the first thought that comes to my mind every time I see a thread about this diet. I can easily imagine what it would smell like, and it ain't pretty!
Other than that, it's just another unsustainable and unhealthy fad diet.7 -
It's a silly fad diet that's been around for decades. You lose weight because you eat in a deficit. There's nothing special about this diet.3

I was going to say this should be named the stinky farts diet. good to see others agree.4

What about the boiled egg, raw onion and burrito diet?3

I think I'd prefer the boiled egg, chili beans, cabbage and popcorn diet. Might as well go all in!4 -
Well everyone else covered all the points I was going to make:
Overly restrictive
Doesn't teach how to build an appropriate diet
Boring
Smelly
Now I'm just here for the eggsellent puns.6 -

Popcorn? I've never heard of that as a fartogenic.2 -

Eggsactly! You laid it quite nice. I hope some don't poach the conversation though!3 -
Op hurray. Eating a lot of eggs would be eggs-tremely eggs-plosive, if you know what we mean. Good for you, I'm glad you are not offended by our poor attempt at humor6
