Simple vs. easy and getting back to basics

I've been thinking a lot lately about the concept of weight loss. I lost about 50 pounds from January, 2016-July, 2016. Since about August, I've gained and lost the same 10 pounds. I haven't been able to get my groove back. I KNOW how to lose weight, I've done it. The concept is simple. When I was focused, it was easy. I have not been focused and I can't necessarily figure out why. Do I not want it bad enough? Maybe. So, while the concept remains simple, my execution is no longer easy. I need to get back to the basics and see if I can find the ease again. For me that includes not drinking alcohol, keeping calories around 1300-1400 and being aware of my triggers. I celebrate my 40th birthday in 8 weeks (on a beach) and want to love myself. Now I just need to love myself enough to do what I did to lose the initial weight.

So my question to you is, what are your basics and what's your "easy?"

Getting at least 3 servings of vegetables everyday. Exercising regularly. I know exercise is not for weight loss, but if I slack off on workouts.....I eat more crap. Planning helps a lot, it keeps me away from fast food.

The easy is getting to the gym. Dialing in the nutrition is not easy or simple. That's where I must be diligent.
