Apparently I am predisposed to weigh less than average.

That's...good?

Still have six more pounds to lose, but apparently I started out under "average" at 5'1" 130 pounds. Ah well, statistics aren't everything, are they?

23andme only takes genes into account, not environmental factors such as over/under eating, activity levels, etc. Take in the info however you like. I did it myself, and the data is really interesting!

You paid to get a genetic on line test and that was the result?

I wouldn't pay much attention to the results, it is averaging who knows how many people's stats.

You do you, find a healthy weight that is suitable for your lifestyle.

It's meaningless. The variants have been correlated to populations with lower or higher weight, not shown to actually have anything to do with those populations' weight.

23andMe runs your DNA through a bunch of microarrays looking for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and other markers, and checks those against a database of known markers and the stuff they are correlated with. I mainly did it for ancestry information, which was pretty neat. They also have a ton of surveys if you want to participate in Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS). I have done a number of these as well.

I was surprised to see today that they are also trying to correlate markers with weight, but I guess it's a topic of some interest. Just not sure how accurate this is -- I suspect not very, since as another poster mentioned, there are so many other factors involved. They didn't exactly sequence my gut microbiome, lol.

Glad you got more information. I was a little bemused.

I wouldn't set my weight goal by that.

The other ancestry info would be interesting. We're there any surprises for you?

    Cheers, h.

Yeah, I knew I had native ancestry on my mom's side, but it turned out there was some significant contribution from my dad's side, as well.

Also I have less Neanderthal than much of the rest of the population? Still not sure how accurate that is, when I first joined they originally told me I had MORE Neanderthal than most other people!
