    Not true I'm afraid. "Coal is a product of preserved organic matter, exposed to moderate temepratures and pressures within the crust. It is mostly carbon. And yes, diamond is an ultra-high pressure allotrope of carbon. However, we do not form diamonds by compressing coal. Diamonds are formed in the mantle through completely different processes than those which bury sediments to form coal."
