I started running about a month ago. I'm from SA so our autumn just started. I work full time and have a 3 year old son. So i run in the mornings and put him in his stroller. Going to the gym is not really an option, because he is still too small to workout with me and our gym does not have daycare facilities. So what other exercise can I do when it's too cold or when it's raining outside? I don't want to break my hard work just because of the weather. I wanna do something that will still keep me fit for running and cycling. Any advice? Ps... currently saving up to buy a stationary bike, but for the meantime....any other advice??

Bodyweight resistance training is very complementary to running.

A good programme is Body by You

Rain is good for running in, there is more oxygen in the air, so wrap baby up, put rainhood over trolley & go running anyway, pull your hair up & have a shower when you come back, no one will know you did'nt bother having a shower 1st. Or look at some exrcise videos on You Tube. Hope that helps

Pop a waterproof on his buggy and get out and run! He will love the movement of his buggy and will probably either be looking around or having a nap. So long as he's well wrapped up and dry, he'll be happpy - just bear in mind he will feel the cold more than you as he is stationary.

Have you considered an indoor trainer for your existing bike instead of a whole stationary bike? They're much less expensive.

That was my first thought, too.

Try some YouTube videos- I like the 30 day shred, it's a mix of cardio and strength, but there are thousands of different options.

there are some good videos on youtube that are cardio/weights - I like FitnessBlender

also second the trainer for your bike rather than a stationary one - cheaper in the long run and nothing can beat riding your bike

With the trainers they have for bikes nowadays, it makes me wish I was a cyclist in addition to running. One of my friends has Zwift and it looks so fun. Cycling is a great no impact option for cross training. If you ever do get a running injury, it's also something you can typically do while recovering from the injury since it's no impact. Also YouTube videos or other exercise DVDs. Plyometrics and strength are good for runners.
