This is the fourth time I'm starting MFP. I go on for a while - I think 60 days was my longest streak. I lost maybe about ten lbs last time, then slacked, then had a cortisol shot for an injury, then blew up again then just started eating like I'm at 20-something tall dude. But I'm a 41 year old 5'2 mom. So....and I stepped on the scale today and voila. 160. Goal weight: 135. And all I can think is to whine in my head - why can't I just eat whatever the eff I waaaanntttt. Sob. Especially since I don't eat wheat (allergic), I cut out all dairy (cheese is my drug) and I minimize sugar to 2x a week. And I have a cocktail like once every two weeks. I'm like the five year old who is like 'it's not faiiiirrrrr'.
But again. On here today. Here we go again. Anyone else feel this way? What are your tricks for managing the 'oh but I can have one more serving?'

I decided long ago I just wasn't the type of person who could eat a little of something if it was right in front of me so I just stopped buying those trigger foods that did me in. Cookies, crackers, sweets of any kind, chips, pop etc. Eventually I just cut out all the sugars and processed carbs and switched to a whole food type of diet and it seemed very natural to do. Now I can't imagine eating any other way so I suppose the transition is complete.

I think of calories like money. It's not fair that I'm not rich but life isn't fair. I can't go on huge shopping sprees and still expect to be able to pay my bills. If I want something special, I save up for it. I have a budget with flexibility in how I spend my money but I can't spend more money than I have.

Are you being so restrictive that you just give up and go back to the way you like to eat? You need to experiment to find a sustainable way of eating. Log your normal way of eating to see what that looks like and then you can make adjustments rather than big changes. The closer you can stay to the way you like to eat, the less of a struggle it should be. Baby steps will get you there.

Log before you eat or drink so that you can change your mind about your portion size or if you even want to consume that at all. Eat smaller portions of calorie-dense items and larger portions of less calorie-dense items. If you don't like something, don't eat it.

Make room for treats. I aim for about 80% of calories from nutrient-dense foods and 20% from treats.

    This is brilliant!

You can eat what you like, you can eat ALLLLLLLLLL the food... If you want to sacrifice your weight loss goals in the process.

You can also achieve your weight loss goals. If you sacrifice being able to eat anything and everything whenever you feel like it.

Sadly, there's sacrifices to both options. You pick which sacrifice is most worth it.

I've been taking a class for pre-diabetes. I haven't been diagnosed but don't want to either. The best thing I've learned is that you simply just count fat grams. I have been doing it for 3 weeks, lost 8 pounds so far. Haven't felt deprived I eat what I want just a bit less.

You can eat everything you want to. Just not all at the same time. Don't torture yourself or you won't last here. Why are you restricting sugar? Did your doctor ask you to?
