My stats are 5'2 and I'm 147 pounds.
Goal is 122 by July . I have about 1200 calories a day.

At the gym I'll be doing about 30 minutes cardio then weights afterwards.

Ive just joined a gym. My personal trainer has said I should probably have more calories than I am.
What should I change my intake to?
Advice welcome. Thank you

    What happens in July?

Set MFP to lose 1lb per week. Eat back a portion of your exercise cals.

Holiday in July. I'll look into settings. Thank you.
Is cutting carbs a good idea for weight loss? I'm talking bread and rice etc...

eat a bit more if you feel like you need to on gym days maybe, and maybe switch the weights & cardio, you'll lift stronger if you do that first.

Not really, you'll see a quick initial loss from water but it isn't sustainable for a lot of people.

Do what you are doing for 2-3 weeks. Evaluate how you feel (energy level, etc), and weight loss. If you are losing an average of 0.5 - 1.0 pounds per week, keep it up. Adjust as necessary.

Your goal is to lose 25 pounds in 15 weeks which is aggressive. You are probably maintaining at about 1,800 (there are calculators on-line), so at 1,200 which is typically considered the lowest safe calorie intake a day (600 deficit) you would lose 1.2 pounds per week. This would decrease as you continue to lose. Exercise calories help, but don't kid yourself about how much you burn in an half hour of cardio.

see what mfp says you should be. I'm on 1200 calories right now for weight loss, and i get about 45-50 min a day light cardio and i lift 4 times a week , and i'm fine. Did your trainer say how much more he thinks you sholud be eating? . What did he suggest you eat, or did he just say eat more? I'd drill him on nutrition and what you should be eating if he is suggesting you eat more. Sometimes eating more just means 50 or 100 calories, not much. You can google Livestrong 1200 calorie diet and see exactly what foods you should be eating. Cutting carbs isn't the answer. Eating the right amount of the right types of carbs is what you want to do.
