Hello everyone, I decided to give MFP a try, hoping that I will get the motivation, support and accountability to succeed in loosing this other adult I swallowed(I feel like I'm carrying another adult person in me). I was always slim and never had to worry about my physical appearance. Over the past 3to 4 years I became depressed and gained over 140lbs. Last year was the apex of it all because I hardly got out of bed. I finally woke up from bed this year and could not recognize who I had become. I could not reconcile what I was seeing in the mirror with who I was before. I've been going through all sorts of emotions; fear, anxiety, shame and just overall disgust at myself. Oh and did I forget to mention the slue of medical issues popping up here and there. On a positive note I started doing something about my problem. I'm not going to lie it's hard. Everyday I feel overwhelmed and I have to give myself a pep talk, to hang in there. My vice is chocolate cake. In some ways I blame Aldi for selling their chocolate cake for $3. I've been known to eat 2 whole cakes in one day when I'm feeling down. It's been 58days since I had chocolate cake.... I know, I'm counting. When I started my weight loss journey on feb 1st the plan was to loose 100lbs by year end. So far I have lost 10 but that happened in the first 2 weeks. For the past 4 weeks the scale has not moved, hence I am beginning to wonder if my goal of loosing 100lbs by year end is too optimistic. I can tell by my clothes I am shrinking but for some reason the scale refuses to budge isn't this too early for a plateau, I mean I just started. It's times like this, I need all the support I can get. I've been trying my best to eat healthy and be more active. I'm on a 1400 calorie diet and I drink at least a gallon of water everyday so would this scale move already... :(. Well I think I have done enough rambling for one night.. So if anyone would like to add me I would greatly appreciate it. I am in dire need of friends to encourage and motivate me. At this point I need all the help I can get. Thank you for reading this.

Welcome to MFP! My goal is to lose 100lbs in 1yr as well.

As many will tell you, the key is religious tracking (and weighing) so that you build awareness on portion sizes and your actual calories eaten. If you haven't lost weight in a month, then you are probably eating more than 1400 calories a day. Start using a postal scale on everything until you get moving again.

I'll invite you to a group of us targeting -100 lbs.

Thank you so much for your input. @Theo166. Actually I have been obsessively counting calories for the past month and do not eat more than 1400 kcal/day in fact most days I don't eat up to that , yet the scale has not budged. I am loosing inches though otherwise I would have been very worried.

If you are losing inches, but not pounds, assess your workouts. Are you including a lot of weight/resistance training? If so, you might be losing the fat, but not weight. That "plateau" might be muscle moving in. Not a bad thing, because you see the change in the fit of your wardrobe. If you have a place that will do one, a full body scan, InBody or BodyPod type assessment, you might get a great idea where you are today, and where you are heading. May you journey be successful, and remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint, so don't get discouraged. Others on here will assist, advise, and motivate.

What you are claiming is against the laws of physics, so something is off with your measurement or counting.
At 1400 calories, you should have about 1000 cal deficit each day, or 7000 a week which is ~2lbs of fat. If your body was adding muscle, then you would be burning over 2lbs of fat. You might gain some water for a few days, but not steadily for a month.

You'll need to open up your dairy if you want more feedback from MFPers.

Do you have a food scale? It helps me a lot Also, I have found I cannot eat back the calories my fitbit says I earned. Darn. If I do, I pretty much just maintain. If I really want to lose weight I have to keep it at 1200 calories or less per day. It does seem a little early for a plateau. Also, the goal is a life style change. Chocolate cake can and should be worked into your plan eventually if you want to keep the weight off. You can have it if you maintain a calorie deficit. Just make sure you are adequately nourished. 1400 empty calories may still cause weight loss, but you won't feel good.
