Chipotle

I'm a little confused about the calories here...So I asked for a side of chicken and a side of steak from Chipotle, and they gave me a cup of each with a lid. When I entered it on MFP as "chipotle chicken side" it listed it as 4 oz and 190 calories. For some reason this doesn't sound accurate to me. I just don't see how that tiny cup could hold 4 oz--or the same amount of chicken that's in a burrito! How should I log it?? Any suggestions?

4 ounces of chicken is not a lot. What is the liquid capacity of the cup it came in? That may help to determine the approximate portion size.
  • I have no idea how many liquid ounces the cups hold, but I would say they are the equivalent of 1/4 cup.

I happen to have some cooked chopped chicken in my fridge for tonight's dinner. I was able to get almost 1 ounce into a 1/4 dry measure cup without packing it i too much.

    Hope that helps.

Do you take your scale with you when you go out to eat?

I think chipotle lists their nutrition facts on their website, what does that say? They do cook with a lot of oil and sugar and spices so I would almost think that's too low.

4 oz is roughly the shape of a deck of cards. If you're eyeballing the cup and not buying that they're the same size, you may not have gotten what you paid for. Tweak accordingly.

imo it's better to estimate on the high side than low especially when you're talking about fast food.

I own a pocket scale. Not saying I use it, but they are available.

A serving of chicken that they put on their burritos/bowls is probably larger than a "side" of chicken you asked for. I would probably half the 4 oz serving size they have listed

...Or just leave it. Over-estimating doesn't mean you ACTUALLY ate that much lol

I am willing to bet that those cups are going to hold no more than 2oz. A small chicken breast is usually 4-5 oz and about the size of your palm

Agreed, as I got a side of chicken once and it was only 1..3 oz when I weighed it at home!

Yes, I do. It's small and flat and fairly inconspicuous. Model Blade-1KG

Mostly I use it for 'high ticket' items. Like french fries or rice, for example. With the food scale, I often find an extra 200-300 calorie portion piled into the box/bag/whatever.
