I've seen different websites suggest different percentages for macros, I've seen 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein and 50, 30, 20...how do you know which is right for your body?

There is no right %. There is no perfect macro ratio. Your macros should be appropriate for your goals and your eating preferences.

Also, if you work the math... on a 1500 calorie diet, the differences in 30% vs 35% vs 40% in a given macro isn't very significant. IMO, this isn't something worth getting hung up on.

Forget percentages. 0.8g to 1g of protein per pound of lean mass, 0.3g of fat per pound of body weight, everything else into carbs.
