Hey everyone! So I'm new to strength training.. it's never been my favorite but now that I'm serious about loosing some weight I see that strength training is just as important as cardio.
So my question is: how many minutes of strength should I start with? I've been following along to some beginners videos on YouTube.
Should I try for more than the 15 min I've been doing?
I also only have two ten lbs weights. Should I find some heavier 15/20lb ones for better results?
Any tips would be appreciated!

It sounds like you work out at home? If so - look into body weight fitness and resistance training. It's a great option for people without a lot of equipment.
As far as time - I say do what you will stick to. I prefer a 30-50 minute strength training session at the gym... but that includes rest times and finding the equipment I need. If you can get a good workout in 15 minutes right now though, that's okay to keep doing.0 -
Yes i only work out at home. I bought an elliptical for cardio, 10lb weights, and I have a resistance band set. Good to know, I thought maybe I wasn't doing it long enough. But sure and sweating by the time the video is over lol!

I mean, you definitely want to progress at some point. When I started, I was doing 30 Day Shred videos. I worked up from there... But they killed me in the beginning!0 -
Check out Darebee.com. Specifically 30 Days of Strength Program (bodyweight at home) and IronBorn - using dumbells.
They really work!
Good luck.2 -
So my question is: how many minutes of strength should I start with?
i started on strength stuff three years ago. have done various programmes, but everything i've done was measured by weight plus repetitions and sets, not on time. so for instance, on stronglifts 5x5 i'd bench/press/row/squat/overhead press x weight for five sets of five reps per set, and rest for however long i needed to in between sets.
it takes as long as it takes, basically. ime it's more about what you do than how much time you spend doing it.

Best tip: get onto a structured proven program: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10332083/which-lifting-program-is-the-best-for-you/p1
You can start with a body weight program and continue to transition to dumbbell or barbell. StrongCurves is a big choice for many women because it focuses on the booty. They have both a bodyweight and barbell program that can take you over 1 year.1
