Pedometer accuracy

I have a Sportline pedometer, which also gives a calorie burned reading, and I was wondering how accurate pedometers are? If it relatively reliable, then I have an idea of calories burned. If it's inaccurate, then relying on it wouldn't be wise. Any thoughts or experience?

I would doubt there being any accuracy. A pedometer doesn't know if you wandered slowly, walked briskly or ran those steps so assigning a true calorie burn would be impossible. Another reason I find FitBit's to be a bit of joke.0
