Weight Watchers and mfp together

I would like to hear from and friend people who are using Mfp and going to Weight Watcher meetings. The reason for this is that the only thing I miss from Weight Watchers is the meeting support. I'm thinking about rejoining. Mfp is easier to use the restaurant data base leaves WW in the dust. The downside to WW is the cost and temptation to buy their snacks mist of which are way too high in additives.

I was a WW member when I started on MFP. I cancelled my membership at WW pretty quickly. I am more successful here, the database is much better, it's free and I get way more support from people here. Having said that, to each their own, there are groups here for folks using WW and MFP. Good luck in your journey.0

I am a Lifetime member of WW. My DH and I decided to start up with WW again. He previously lost over 100 pounds on WW and I lost 30. He has gained back half of his weight and so have I. A friend recently joined and has lost weight. He encouraged us to join him. We start Tuesday unless DH changes his mind. If he does, I will probably do the online route.0

I'm going to sit in on a meeting , probably next Saturday before I rejoin. That is really all I miss about WW. I am one of growing number of WW members who is trying to eat clean. A lot of the non fat and low fat foods have too many fillers.0

WW is okay if you can't prepare healthy meals at home. I am blessed to have a wife that can not only cook but can cook using lots of fresh produce. A piece of lean meat or fish with some veggies baked or grilled in olive oil keeps the calorie count in line much the same as WW will. I also don't go for low fat but try for healthy fat from olive oil, walnuts, almonds and avocado. Full disclosure, I have never had WW so I am not bashing them I just feel for me healthy meals and MFP do the trick.0

I'm a WW member currently, and I'm coming back to MFP. I've had success with both WW in the past (different Points system) and MFP, and I think WW is actually pretty great. Their new app is a ton better than it used to be, and the Smart Points system seems to favor lean protein and free fruits and veggies. Starches are weighted higher, it seems. Overall, I think if you really embrace it, you'll learn to make better food choices. Still, I'm over it, and here's why.
Mainly, I just really don't like counting Points. I can't just pick up a package of something and KNOW how many Points are in it. I'm constantly on my phone looking things up. I feel less obsessive with MFP because if I know I have 400 calories for a meal (or whatever number), I can easily flip a package over (or look at a restaurant nutrition menu, etc.) and know if it fits into that goal. MFP just feels more flexible to me in that way.
On a more petty note, the meetings seem to really push their WW foods, which are like these teeny tiny bars (meant to curb a sweet tooth) and little crunchy snacks (meant to satisfy a salty craving). If that helps people, more power to them, but personally, I don't appreciate the weekly WW food commercial. I don't want to eat that junk, and every single meeting they are more than encouraging you to buy, buy, buy their products. I already pay them $45/month to come to the meetings, so the commercials to the captive, already-paying audience are quite off putting to me.
Finally, the meetings (when they're not selling you their foods) are hit or miss. If you find your tribe and have a great leader, then they're absolutely worth the $45/month. I think people who look forward to their meetings and connect with the people in the meetings are absolutely more successful. It's a wonderful form of accountability to get on the WW scale and see that number printed in your booklet every week. However, if you DON'T find a meeting that you look forward to, it's a weekly chore to show up and hear people obsess about their 2-point tortillas or fat free Cool Whip (gross!). The big question about whether WW is "worth it" or not hinges on the meetings, in my mind.
Good luck to you, whatever you decide. Tracking works - whether you do it in WW or MFP. Tracking in both WW and MFP, however, will make you crazy, probably. I tried this for a week, and it drove me nutty.2 -
