Bad DOMS - could that explain sudden weight spike

Ok everyone, my diet has not been perfect but I. Have been keeping everything between 1600- 1900 cals on "cheat days" and closer to 1300 cals every other day. I was doing Keto fairly successfully and went down to 164. Then there was a cheat day that included sugar- boom out of ketosis and immediately up to 168 for a few days, even clean eating couldn't remove the water weight. Then I started strength training this week and OMG I guess so bad. I have not had DOMS this bad in since I can remember. So I'm wondering- (and I know this is all water weight, Because nobody gains 8 pounds of fat in two days)- would this weight be likely due to my muscles holding extra water to deal with their Trauma? (Like I can't put my shoes on I'm that sore) or what? That's a crazy amount of water weight and I'm really confused. Thanks

Yup, totally absolutely normal. The combination of many more carbs than normal plus new weight training is most definitely the culprit.2

I agree with @ArvinSloane. The increase in carbs and the DOMS can both cause water retention. Both at the same time and 8 lbs doesn't seem that odd.2

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It's soreness caused by microtears in your muscle fibers from training.
And OP, yes. Going from keto to higher carb will add a bunch of glyocgen/water and training will add 2-4 lbs of water.0 -
OP is swole.1

@donbroadhead51 this link (above) will help you out. There is a lot of great information in the stickies at the top of each sub-forum. Give some a read.
Cheers, h.
